Fakin Winery entering the American Market placing itself on the World Wine Map

Fakin Winery cultivates typical Istrian grape varieties such as Malvasia, Teran, and Muscat. They currently have nine active wine labels, some of which were introduced to the American market in February through several organized tastings and wine presentations in New York.

On February 19 2023, members of the Istria Sports Club in New York had the pleasure of tasting selected Fakin wines and learning more about wine production and the family winemaking tradition through a brief presentation in Astoria, Queens. Susan Karlic, the head of the Istria Sports Club, expressed her gratitude, stating, "Members of the Istrian Club and guests are extremely honored and grateful that the Fakin family joined our community by presenting and tasting their wines, bringing the love of Istria to New York. Everyone was delighted to meet this family who, with their skill, great passion, and dedication, produce top-notch indigenous wines."

As part of the special event "Food and Wine Stories of Croatia" on February 21 2023, at Villa Berulia restaurant, Fakin Winery presented their Istrian Malvasia and Teran to experts, journalists, sommeliers, and wine enthusiasts. All interested wine lovers had the opportunity to meet the winemakers and taste Istrian wines paired with a carefully selected four-course dinner.

The Consul General of the Republic of Croatia in New York, Mr. Nikica Kopačević, also attended the event and expressed his support: "The Croatian Consulate is proud of the arrival of Croatian winemakers on the American market."

Ms. Leila Krešić-Jurić, Director for North America of the Croatian Tourist Board, emphasized, "This is the first presentation under the name Food and Wines of Croatia, organized in collaboration with Croatian Premium Wine Imports, to showcase Croatia as a destination with authentic food and indigenous wine varieties. In addition to visual representation, this is the best way to convey the destination and attract American guests who greatly appreciate the quality of food and drinks. The response from wine educators and media representatives from New York was excellent, with over 20 industry professionals and media enjoying Fakin wines."

The owner of Villa Berulia restaurant, Alexandra Ivanac, expressed her satisfaction after the successful dinner: "It was our great pleasure to host Marko and his wonderful family and introduce their fantastic wines to our guests. We are always proud and grateful when we have the opportunity to support our Croatians, and we wish the Fakin family many more successes like this."

On February 25 2023, Fakin Winery presented their fresh Malvasia, fresh Teran, aged Teran Il Primo, and Yellow Muscat at Vinoteka 46 in Huntington, New York, paired with selected gourmet specialties. The host and owner of Vinoteka 46, Danijel Pedišić, emphasized: "It was a great honor for us to host the Fakin family in our restaurant. Croatian wines are increasingly accepted in the United States, especially among Croatian-American communities. I believe that the sale of Croatian wines will continue to grow in the US, and we will have many more events with Croatian winemakers."

Fakin Winery concluded their visit to New York with an appearance on Croatian Radio New York, in the program "Glas slobodne Hrvatske" on February 25 2023. During the show, they presented their winery, top-quality wines, and indigenous grape varieties, sharing the history, story, and tradition of their family.

"We are very happy to have had the opportunity to present our wines in New York to media representatives, sommeliers, Croatian people in the USA, and all wine enthusiasts who supported us with their presence and enjoyed the gathering, delicious food, and fine wines. We thank the Istria Sports Club, Villa Berulia restaurant, and Vinoteka 46 for organizing these wonderful evenings and gatherings. Special and big thanks to Croatian Premium Wine Imports, led by Ms. Mirena Bagur, for their exceptional assistance and collaboration during our journey. Thanks for the ever-present support from the Istria Tourist Board and Vinistra," said Marko Fakin.
